Dry Shade or semi-shade, well drained but not dust dry

Dryopteris generally are easy garden ferns of robust and vigorous growth. All are more or less trouble free in cultivation. Dryopteris affinis is nearly winter green, whereas filix-mas withers with the first winter frost.
